Biography:

We don't know the full dates of Shunzan's life, but do know that he was active from ca. 1782-98.

"Shunzan, a pupil of Katsukawa Shunshō, is sometimes criticized as an overly mannered artist who never fully exploited his enormous technical skills."

This artist's works were published by Mikawa (Marks U223), Nishimuraya Yohachi (Marks 391) and Sōshūya Yohei (Marks 485). Many of Shunzan's prints show no publisher's seals, but the predominance of those found in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston were printed by Nishimuraya Yohachi followed next by Mikawa.
