This actor held this name from 11/1782 to 10/1795 and again from 11/1797 to 2/1812.

"Arashi Sampachi I [also Sanpachi] was a popular katakiyaku and jitsuaku actor, who was trained in Kamigata but also made a fame for himself in Edo in the middle of the 1790s and the beginning of the 19th century." Quoted directly from Kabuki21.com.

****

Almost all of the prints of this actor which we have found were designed by Toyokuni I. We did find one example by Kunisada, Toyokuni's premier pupil. He does appear in one volume by Shōkōsai Hanbē 松好斎半兵衛 (active 1795-1807) from the Pulverer Collection, now deposited in the Freer-Sackler Galleries.
